Dear Neighbors,
A little bit ago, our program was going to “Cease and Desist”.
After receiving these encouraging letters from neighbors,
we moved forward and are able to put the past behind us.

We are grateful for this opportunity to serve our wonderful community
We have received permission to share these letters
If we do not receive written permission, we edit and rewrite key points
We appreciate ALL comments, concerns and interests

I LOVE THESE EMAILS!!!  You are worth your weight in gold!              Thank you for all your hard work! (a very happy resident!!)

Thank you for all you're doing (another happy resident)

In response to the e mail "concerned about crime watch car" those complaints are on spot...I was the former member of the South Marion Sheriff's COPS program in charge of 34 volunteers and as a former police officer I immediately noticed that the "Volunteers" were "NOT" trained to meet the standards of "See, and Report"  In fact most just rode around for four hours thinking that just because  they were wearing a uniform and riding around in a Marked Sheriff car that some how they were deterring crime and that sad part was that the Sheriff at that time thought so too and would not support any talk of improving the COPS training program which was in reality four hours of "Orientation" with no emphasis on "observe, identify and report" so most "Volunteers : just Blindly ride around never being "inquisitive and reported little of value except a tree down, burglar alarm or accident.

On the bright side I believe we have a chance to improve the COPS program with the new sheriff "If elected" Billy Woods"  he is running on I am an outsider and it is time for some new blood in the good ol boys club of entrenched  "we have done it tis way for years and we are don't want any change,  so encourage residents to vote for Billy Woods.. I will be talking to him about our lack of patrol in our neighborhoods by Deputies and Trained COPS volunteers.

On another note I just moves into a new house on the west end of158th Place and we experience young men high on testosterone  driving  wheel squealing no muffler cars and pick up trucks racing up and down the streets in this area daily.. and into the night  but since Marion County is about 100 deputies short response time is slow and they can not linger in the area..

.also neighbors pointed out a problem with the trucks of a major Refuse company (Waste Pro) driving at high speed throughout the neighborhood cutting the corners destroying the pavement making big holes as the big dual wheels rode onto the lawn and eroded the edge of the pavement driving onto the corner as they raced to pick up our trash.

At the corner of 158th  Place  I placed bricks along the edge of the corner curve  at the stop sign where Waste Pro was destroying not only the edge of the road but encroaching onto the elderly widows lawn.

I called the safety Manager and he followed the truck,  observed his driving, had a meeting with the driver asking him to slow down, stop cutting corners AND stay on the road.. so far his driving has improved.

At one end of se 84th ave and 157th the trees had grown down so low that the tree limbs  were brushing the tops of cars and trucks like UPS, Fed EX and garbage trucks had to drive on the wrong side of the road to get by, then one night I saw a fire truck responding to a call in  that area and he had to back out and start over driving on the shoulder, so I call the Marion co highways dept and they told me they did not cut the trees because that was a private road.. but when I had them look it up they realized their error and came out and cut the trees way back.

I will speak with Sheriff Candidate Billy Woods and make him aware of our concerns,    Sincerely,  Pete Brenenstuhl

Hello,

I have a Real Estate business to add to the Directory.  My name is Ryan Congleton I've worked for Foxfire Realty since 2007 when we moved here from Michigan.  I also appreciate the crime updates and I think that one persons view does not reflect the whole community.  I think you have been doing a fantastic job and we appreciate your time and effort to better the community as a whole.  Thank you for everything that you do!

Ryan Congleton  Foxfire Realty (517) 230-744 Ryancongleton@gmail.com

Good for you----  I think you have worked very hard to make this a better place to live. all our neighbors should be happy to know that we have someone like you out there that wants things safe for all of us. I know you have a big heart that only sees the good in people. You have not asked any of us to help pay for the out going flyers or asked anyone for there time. Having a neighbor like you I'm proud to say Thank you for caring to step up to the plate and fight for what you believe in. Not just for yourself but all who live here. Thank you Carol

I am so sorry not everyone appreciates your time and effort informing the community.  I do. With regard to coyotes, back in the spring, we had an encounter with one.  It came from the field along 157 Place (where the gopher tortoise live) which also borders 89th Terrace.  When putting the dog out for the last outing before bedtime, it came towards him (he's a large dog) and we scared it off.

This is extremely disappointing , I recently signed up and was so thankful for this information . This is the only way I know what is going on in the neighborhood . Being newer to the area and not knowing anyone this really helped Your work is appreciated , thank you for it ! It truly helps .

The crime watch cars can't be every where, especially as our community continues to grow in leaps!!!  Technology is the way of now and the future. I have lived in OBH since 1994 and we have seen and heard coyotes.  We've seen foxes, raccoons.  I even swear I saw a bear a few years ago when I was walking my dog at 5 am.  That's good that this person knows how to dial 911, but it's helpful to know what's going on and to know what to look out for, like people roaming the streets, etc.

Again, a HUGE THANK YOU for what you are doing for ALL of us.

Why should you let ONE person determine how you help others? Unfortunately, no matter what people do to help others, you will have     a handful that will look down on it.    I think what you are doing is AWESOME!!!  and EXTREMELY helpful and you should continue it!!!!          I have forwarded your emails to my mom, and a good friend who lives    in our community and they find them very helpful also and they have forwarded to other friends they know in the community. I think this is a way of keeping everyone informed to what's going on in our community....neighbors helping neighbors.  Not everyone in the community is retired and home all day long to know what's going on      or to keep a watchful eye.  No, we don't live in the "hood", but unfortunately crime is every where, even in the high ended gated communities.

I’m sorry to hear that you will no longer be working on the part that reports crime. Due to your efforts to notify the neighborhood, I am now more cautious and make sure that our doors are always locked. I look forward to receiving other community information. I am sorry that one delusional individual has to spoil it for everyone else.                        Thank you for your efforts – they are appreciated by others.

There are younger families in the neighborhood and people come and go. As a new family in this neighborhood, I appreciate any information I can get about the neighborhood. I have custody of my 5-year old granddaughter and it is not easy to get out and chat with any neighbors.  I hope others respond as I did. Good luck!

I think the opinion of one person in the community to try to distract / dismiss attention away from what is going on is a terrible reason to leave the other residents of the community in the dark. I, myself would have not known I wasn't the only one to have my vehicle broken into otherwise. It is of some measure of relief to know I wasn't singled out, that there is a rash of this happening all over our streets. I wonder when the lone person who objected to breaking OBH news is violated in some fashion, whether their opinion will drastically change. All of us have busy lives and don't converse daily with our neighbors, so this is the best way to be informed and take precautionary measures. Janet's efforts to keep us all informed are very commendable and I for one, don't want our brand new informative community news to stop because it unnerved one resident. I have lived in OBH for 13 years and this is the 1st time in all these years I feel I live in a "community" and not just a neighborhood. How crazy is it that OBH association would charge their own residents to use the community building for a community meeting...??... !!

Sounds like OBH needs better representation.

Key Points from another resident letter:

*They were not aware that things happen in our area and they understand concern * They feel it is better to know so we are better prepared if anything happens * They see neighbors leaving lights on, putting cars in their garage, locking homes and cars * They state that there was a lack in doing simple things to make us less of a target

They believe eyes have been opened for the benefit of all

They believe we can make it difficult for criminals

They appreciated the efforts of OBH Community Awareness Program

They love living here, they like being informed,

and they want to continue to make it better
